Toilets facing Klang temple put on hold

THE construction of a row of public toilets in front of the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Klang has stopped after the project drew a storm of protest.

Malaysian Nanban reported that the toilets were also located behind a mosque and near two churches.

The 70% completed structures had been the subject of a spat between the Klang City Council, local residents and unhappy committee members of the temple, a major tourist attraction in Klang’s Little India,

Selangor exco member Ronnie Liu said the project had been put on hold while the council assessed the viability of the project.

He said the Federal Government was funding the construction but was still subject to state approval.

Tamil Nesan said in its editorial that most accidents involving express buses were caused by the indifferent attitude of drivers and their failure to observe safety rules.

It said many passengers had complained that drivers would speed at night, with some even willing to forgo rest to earn extra money.

The paper urged the authorities to come down harder against bus operators and their employees who do not follow safety regulations.
